There are places where stories flow naturally, whether by the details or the environment or by the people, and which conquer us and take us out at the very moment we enter.
There are places where stories flow naturally, whether by the details or the environment or by the people, and which conquer us and take us out at the very moment we enter. The Café O Lavrador is one of these cases. A meeting space for generations planted on the trail that leads to the Parque de Feiras and is the familiar meeting point for the people of the region and surrounding areas.
It was founded in 1982, in the village of Vilar, by an illustrious local folk, the friend everyone knew, who enjoyed to gather his friends in his cellar, joining them to the table, with good food, conversation, and boiled laughter. With these, all conditions were created for the genesis of what would become a charismatic and typically Portuguese commercial space.
Born in a peripheral area of the city, where the agricultural sector was strong, it was christened “O Lavrador”, The Farm Worker. Since its inception, the place has been growing and changing over time, going through various managements, following the times and wishes, but always remaining the cheerful scenario for the most outstanding adventures and stunts.
Juliana Verdú, an employee of the Café O Lavrador since 2012, working in the hotel business since always, was enchanted by the soul of its balconies, becoming a dedicated attendant, who carried a contagious smile for the delights of the fellow customers, also a committed laborer to the cause, with much time spend until quite late hours. The effort was so hurtful her Grandfather went so far as to say: “You work there so much that you had better be the owner of it,” with this expression, it seems that she already guessed that a few years later the right moment would come for Juliana, along with Miguel to become owners of the Café.
Managing a place loaded with such symbolism is not easy, so the couple undertook to modernize and to build a space with the advantages of downtown with the tranquility of the suburbs, more economical and much lesser confusion, with a closer, dynamic and engaging service. In a sentence, owning a home that values the customers in such a way, they may feel right, with a feeling of belonging, as if they were at home.
Owners of an innovative spirit evident in their initiatives, Miguel and Juliana were the creators of a profound business revolution, transforming it into an authentic must-visit, carving a concept of success in the image of its leader.
For instance, “O Lavrador” is now the official seat of “Babes do Beirão”, a group founded by Juliana, which brings together beautiful women with the same passion for the drink. The idea is currently patronized by the brand of the most famous Portuguese liquor.
